CHP arrests suspect in Oakland freeway shooting using witness dashcam video

The California Highway Patrol announced Monday that a suspect in a shooting on a highway in March was arrested using dashcam video from a witness.

On March 20, around 9 a.m., CHP received a 911 call from someone driving on Interstate 580 in Oakland. Dispatch was told the driver of a white car was seen pointing a gun out the car window and firing.

The caller said the white car then exited I-580 via the Seminary exit and headed toward Seminary Avenue.

Investigators responded to the scene and found no victims, and no other 911 calls were received in connection with the shooting.

The CHP said the dashcam led investigators to 32-year-old Dominic Jerome Taylor of San Leandro.

CHP officers detained him on April 12 in Oakland. During the stop, officers began to suspect that Jerome may have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, drunk driving with an alcohol content of over 0.08, intentionally and negligently discharging a firearm, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, driving with a revoked license and driving without an ignition switch.
