Nottingham Forest lose appeal against four-point deduction

Nottingham Forest have lost their appeal against the deduction of four points for breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSRs).

Forest had hoped to pick up points again after the ruling but now remain on 29 points and are three points above the relegation zone with two games to go.

Below is the full statement from the Premier League.

Premier League statement

An independent appeal panel has upheld a commission's decision to deduct four points from Nottingham Forest after admitting a breach of the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The PSR sanction applied to the assessment period up to the 2022/23 season and was challenged by the club on two grounds. The club argued that the independent commission erred when it did not consider the sale of a high-profile player shortly after the evaluation period as a mitigating circumstance and that it erred further when it decided not to apply the point deduction in full or not partially suspend it imposed. Each of these grounds was rejected by the Appeal Committee, which found that the independent commission was entitled to impose the sanction it imposed immediately. The four-point deduction therefore remains.

The appeal committees are independent of the Premier League and member clubs. The Appeal Committee in this case consisted of the Rt Hon Lord Dyson (Chairman), David Phillps KC and Daniel Alexander KC, each appointed by the Independent Chairman of the Premier League Judicial Panel.
