Mötley Crüe play “Secret” club show in New York City: Watch

The legendary band played a 12-song set at the Bowery Ballroom under the name “1981.”

Mötley Crüe played a “secret” club show at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on Monday night (May 6). The band had promoted the concert on social media under the nickname “1981” (the year they were founded) and was greeted by a packed house.

The 12-song set in the 600-capacity hall was largely filled with the Crüe's best-known tunes, including “Looks That Kill,” “Shout at the Devil,” “Dr. Feelgood”, “Girls, Girls, Girls” and the closing number “Kickstart My Heart”. The band also performed their new single “Dogs of War” (their first song with new guitarist John 5) as well as a cover medley with tunes from the Beatles, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Beastie Boys and others.

When tickets went on sale last week, tickets for the club show sold out in five minutes as fans quickly realized it was a Mötley Crüe concert.

The New York City performance followed two shows in Atlantic City and preceded a headlining set at the Welcome to Rockville Festival in Florida this Thursday (May 9). After that, the band has various headlining, festival and state fair dates planned from the end of June to mid-October (tickets available here).

Severe consequence recently sat down with Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, Vince Neil and John 5 to discuss new song “Dogs of War”, their new record deal with Big Machine and their longevity as a band, among other things.

“These days we spend a lot of time being particularly grateful because our musical colleagues have come and gone,” Lee told us. “We are still here and almost bigger than ever. It's really cool to see how what we've done transcends a few generations. You see 6-year-old children on their father's back shouting, 'Scream! Scream!' – That pretty much says it all.”
