The Super Mario Bros. movie was the highest-grossing film of 2023

The “story” of the Super Mario Bros. movie is hilarious when you really look at how things turned out. First we found out there was going to be a movie, and it was going to be made by Illumination, the team behind the Despicable Me and Minions movies. An interesting pairing that COULD lead to something special. When we found out that the voice was cast in the most casual way possible (an odd segment in a Nintendo Direct), fans were wide-eyed, and for good reason. I still maintain that the casting wasn't as good as it could have been and that it was made primarily for Name Worth, especially with Chris Pratt in the role of Mario.

Then, in 2023, the film was expected by most fans but did not generate any “hype”. But when the film came out in April, it exploded around the world. Before we knew it, the film grossed over a billion dollars! It was one of the few films in 2023 to achieve this, and it was a film starring Mario! What does this have to do with anything right now? Well, a report from Deadline revealed something pretty interesting.

In 2023, no film has been more profitable than the Super Mario Bros. movie. Believe it. According to them, a net profit of around $559 was generated. In contrast, the year's No. 1 movie, Barbie, only earned $421. Imagine two movies about a toy doll and a video game character having stood the test of time because they were well made!

…and no, Chris Pratt doesn't sound like Mario. I will die on this hill.
