Graphic video shows an animal control officer dragging a dog in Winslow

WINSLOW, AZ (AZFamily) — An animal control officer is on paid administrative leave after a graphic video showed him dragging a dog while working in Winslow over the weekend.

Police said the officer was dispatched to the area near Apache Road and Cherry Street on Saturday to capture a stray dog.

A viewer sent to Arizona's Family shows the officer dragging the large dog behind him with a catch pole. The dog is breathing heavily in the video.

“You’re suffocating him, dude,” one man said.

“He’s not going to die,” the official said.

Police said the officer loaded the dog into the impounded vehicle and drove off.

An animal abuse complaint was filed Monday.

Investigators said a veterinarian examined the dog and it was in good health.

The police are investigating the case and ask the public for patience.

“At this time, we are asking the public to give this department an opportunity to complete the investigation and, once the investigation is complete, communicate the conclusion to the public,” the Winslow Police Department said in a statement.
