Tottenham player earning £100,000 a week could now force his summer exit

A player who Tottenham appear to want to tie down with a new contract could actually push to leave this summer, a BBC pundit said this week.

The Spurs consider the mass sale in the summer with over a dozen players to be unsafe

Paul O'KeefeA very reliable source when it comes to news from within the Spurs ranks has claimed that the Lilywhites could be considering offers for more than a dozen members of Ange Postecoglou's squad this summer.

At N17, the ex-managing director still has a major say.

Spurs got off to an absolutely brilliant start to the 2023/2024 season, winning eight of their first ten Premier League games, before injuries to James Maddison and Micky van de Ven led to something of a slump in the middle of the season.

Their form eventually bounced back and the Lilywhites were firmly in contention for a Champions League place for most of 2023/2024, but their form has plummeted over the last month.

After losing four games in a row, including heavy defeats to Newcastle and Liverpool as well as London derby defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea, top four rivals Aston Villa are now in control and look set to almost certainly win their final Champions League Get qualification for next season term.

Newcastle 4-0 Tottenham

Barring a late collapse in Unai Emery's side, it is very likely that Postecoglou and Spurs will be playing Europa League football in 2024/25, which will be disappointing for a number of fans given how excellent their team has been in this Season has started.

It also underlines what Postecoglou has said several times recently: Tottenham need serious change. The idea that they are open to offers for more than a dozen players shows the enormous scope of the long-term project they face, with Bryan Gil, Giovani Lo Celso, Troy Parrott, Joe Rodon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Richarlison and Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon, Japhet Tanganga, Manor Solomon and Djed Spence have all recently linked up with the N17 exit door.

Lo Celso's case is strange as the Argentine World Cup winner had few chances despite Maddison's waning form. Some fans have expressed their disdain at this and are little shocked that Lo Celso is reportedly ready to leave Tottenham for this reason.

The £100,000-a-week star's contract expires next year. Despite his lack of playing time, Tottenham are apparently planning to hold “surprise” talks over a new deal with Lo Celso to protect themselves from a major financial loss.

Lo Celso could push to leave Spurs despite new contract talks

Speaking to Tottenham News, BBC pundit Alan Hutton claimed that Lo Celso could still push to leave Spurs despite rumors of improved terms.

“He could push for an exit” Hutton explained.

“I think everyone wants to play football week in week out and I really can't imagine that's going to happen for him. So as a player it basically comes down to what options you have. “If you don't play regularly you feel like an outsider and I think that's what he's feeling at the moment. He's not getting the playing time he wants, so if it were me I'd be weighing my options.

“Yes, it would be good to know that Tottenham want you there, but he seems more of a squad player there than a regular, so I would look at all my options in the summer.”
