The Swedish-born singer originally joined NIGHT WISH in 2007 and recorded two studio LPs with the band before being fired in the middle of the group's North American tour in 2012. She was replaced by former ones FOREVER front woman Floor Jansen.

Olzon thought about her time with NIGHT WISH in a 2021 interview with Finland's Chaoszine. When asked how she looks back on the entire five-year experience, she said: “Well, it's mixed feelings. It was a hell of a ride. You know how it was with the media in Finland. And for me it wasn't like that.” I don't understand what's going on because I didn't know how big the band is since I don't live in Finland. So in the first few years I really enjoyed it and I wasn't home much. When I joined they suddenly wanted to do so many long tours [on the road]. I just remember that I had a five-year-old son [and] After five weeks I came home. I was home for a week. I almost didn't have time to unpack my bags before heading off again for four weeks. So to be honest, I can't remember everything. There are so many things I don't remember. And of course also the last few years, when the atmosphere between us wasn't so nice. And I had my third child and something happened.

“So I remember both with really happy, happy feelings, but also with very, very negative and sad feelings,” she explained. “But of course it was Great experience, and it was my dream come true to be a full-time singer in one Great big band. And you Are a super good band. So I bless the albums we made and of course I will always cherish this time.”

Not long after Olzon was fired NIGHT WISH 11 years ago, she claimed that there was an argument between her and her NIGHT WISH when she asked to postpone an Australian tour while she was pregnant. Keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen suggested that Jansen was supposed to lead the band temporarily, but Olzon said no.

Anette explained in a 2014 interview: “I would have been too pregnant to travel to Australia, so I wanted to change the dates, but.” Tuomas didn't want that. There was some discussion about a replacement and at first I was like, “Yeah, well, okay.” But when they mentioned it Floor, it was an automatic “no” from me. I didn't think it was a good idea because I knew what would happen – I knew the fans would love it Floorbecause she's a metal singer and I'm a pop singer, and I wanted to keep my job.

One year later NIGHT WISH fired Olzon, the band released a statement denying that she was fired due to pregnancy or illness. “We discovered that her personality did not fit and was actually detrimental to this work community,” the group said. NIGHT WISH continued to say that Anette was initially open to the idea of hiring a temporary replacement if she couldn't “do it all,” but later “she reversed her decision and the trouble really began.” The fear of losing money and position seemed obvious.” The band also insisted that “Anette and her company” received “a fifth of everything that was achieved during their time”. NIGHT WISH.

Since the end of her employment with NIGHT WISH, Olzon also formed THE DARK ELEMENT with Liimatainen. The group's self-titled debut album was released in 2017; a follow-up, “Songs that the night sings”came out in 2019.

Olzon and well-known progressive metal singer Russell Allen (SYMPHONY X, ADRENALINE MOB) released a collaborative album entitled “Worlds Apart” in March 2020 Frontiers Music Srl. The project was released under the name ALLEN/OLZON. A follow-up album, “Army of Dreamers”arrived in 2022.
