Newton police arrest two teens for allegedly stealing van that crashed near I-80 – Newton Daily News

Two teenage males were arrested and charged with crimes after they allegedly broke into a business in Newton and stole a vehicle this morning. When officers attempted to stop them, the boys fled and later crashed near the westbound ramp of Interstate 80.

Both are in custody and are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to a news release from the Newton Police Department, authorities received a report of a break-in at a business in the city where two vehicles were stolen. At approximately 8:58 a.m., officers were called to the northwest part of the city to a report that one of the stolen vehicles was in the area.

Officers searched the area and found the vehicle. But when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled westbound on Highway 6 out of Newton. The vehicle continued on the highway until it was wrecked on the westbound ramp near the 159 mile marker of I-80.

The occupants were two young men, each 15 years old. Newton News does not publish the names of juveniles accused of crimes. Both men are charged with second-degree larceny, a Class D felony, and possession of a stolen vehicle. The teen driver is charged with vehicular eluding, a Class D felony.
