Cameron Diaz's comeback film confirms Netflix release date

Netflix has announced the release date for Cameron Diaz's comeback film.

The streamer confirmed during its Upfront presentation on Wednesday (May 15) that Diaz's film Back in Action will be released on November 15, 2024.

The “Charlie's Angels” star has come out of retirement for her first film since the 2014 “Annie” remake, starring opposite Jamie Foxx in the action comedy.

In Back in Action, Jamie and Cameron play former CIA agents who gave up their globe-trotting lifestyle to start a family.

A decade later, the former agents are suddenly forced back into the world of international espionage when their cover is blown.

“Horrible Bosses” and “Identity Thief” filmmaker Seth Gordon co-wrote the screenplay for “Back in Action” with Brendan O’Brien (“Bad Neighbors” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem”), with Gordon also was on board as a director.

Production was impacted last year when Jamie Foxx was suddenly hospitalized due to a serious medical emergency. He has since said he is “grateful” to have survived such an “unexpected dark journey.”

There were also allegations of on-set tension during the filming of Back in Action, although Foxx was publicly defended by Cameron Diaz.

“I really hate all the things that were said about our set,” Diaz said on the Lipstick on the Rim podcast. “You just want to scream like, 'What are you talking about?'”

The actor added: “The hiccups that occurred throughout production are natural things that happen, but nothing was delayed, except of course towards the end.” [when Foxx got sick].”

In addition to Diaz and Foxx, Back in Action also stars All of Us Strangers' Andrew Scott, eight-time Oscar nominee Glenn Close and Barbie's Jamie Demetriou in supporting roles.

Back in action will stream worldwide on Netflix on November 15, 2024.
