Police officer injured after Leeds player was involved in car crash on Elland Road ahead of play-off semi-final

A police officer was treated for minor injuries following a car crash involving Leeds player Charlie Cresswell outside Elland Road on the morning of his side's play-off semi-final showdown against Norwich.

Cresswell, 21, was uninjured in the collision near the entrance gate to the West Stand and is reportedly available for the second leg this evening after being used as a substitute in the second leg last week.

Emergency services were called to the scene after Cresswell's Land Rover Defender was involved in a collision with a police car.

Images on social media showed damage to the left side of the police vehicle, with the Land Rover appearing to remain relatively unscathed.

A statement from West Yorkshire Police said: “At 10.13am police were informed of a collision between a police car and a Land Rover Defender on Elland Road, Leeds.

“One officer received medical treatment for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.”

Leeds are aiming for an immediate return to the Premier League via the play-offs after finishing third in the table behind Leicester and Ipswich. Tonight's clash begins with a goalless aggregate result following the first leg draw at Norwich.

Cresswell, who came through Leeds' academy, has made seven appearances in all competitions this season, four of them without a substitute.
