1 person arrested after fatal shooting of UPS driver in Irvine – NBC Los Angeles

A UPS driver was killed Thursday in Irvine after he was shot multiple times in his work truck, police said.

The Irvine Police Department said on X, formerly Twitter, that it received a call about a man shot near Chrysler and Bendix just after 3 p.m. A police spokesman told NBC4 that a UPS truck was involved and its driver is dead.

Aerial footage from NewsChopper4 showed police cordons surrounding the truck parked along a road.

Hours after the shooting, law enforcement found a pickup truck that matched the description of a suspicious vehicle provided by witnesses. The driver of the pickup, which was located at State Route 261 and Santiago Canyon Road, has since refused to exit the vehicle and was barricaded inside.

Law enforcement was able to take the individual into custody around 6:30 p.m. His identity was not immediately released to the public.

Details about what led to the shooting were not immediately available. Although the motive remains unclear, police do not believe the violence was a robbery because nothing was taken from the UPS truck.

In a statement, UPS said it was heartbroken by the news of the loss of one of our drivers in Irvine.

“The safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority and we are providing support and counseling services to our employees affected by this tragedy,” UPS said in the statement.
