NBA Draft Prospect assesses the Sixers' fit with Tyrese Maxey

The 2024 NBA Draft is just around the corner. The Philadelphia 76ers currently have two picks, with their highest selection coming in at 16th overall.

It's been a few years since the Sixers were selected in the first round. The last time they made a selection and kept the player, Philly landed on Tennessee's Jaden Springer. At this point, Springer is with the Boston Celtics after being traded in February.

The Sixers are currently undecided as to whether or not they will sign a new rookie with the pick. With Daryl Morey recently noting that it's unlikely there will be a first-year impact player wherever they pick, one report suggested the Sixers are likely to trade out of the first round and trade for an experienced one players would prefer.

For now, the Sixers are expected to make a selection, and a popular mock draft candidate for the 76ers was Providence guard Devin Carter.

As Carter meets with other new NBA rookies in Chicago this week for the NBA Draft Combine, the young guard recently discussed the idea of possibly playing in Philadelphia – and he specifically noted that he likes his form playing alongside Tyrese Maxey, the first-ever All-Star, plays .

“I think I’ll fit in pretty well,” Carter said The Philadelphia Inquirer Keith Pompey. “I like Maxey. I like what he does offensively and everything. I thought I could be a good compliment to him, especially if I spread the floor and let the ball breathe. If he draws two [defenders], kick it for an open three-pointer and also provide the defensive anchor. You know [being] Someone who can hold onto another team’s best player and just make the team pick him up in transition and go.”

Carter is considered one of the most valuable two-way guards in the draft. With three seasons of action under his belt, Carter has shown plenty of potential.

He started 33 games for Providence last season. Carter increased his three-point shooting volume by three attempts and averaged 38 percent from distance on seven attempts per game. He scored 20 points per game, collected nine rebounds and dished out four assists.

The Sixers are expected to make many changes to the supporting cast of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey as the majority of their roster is set to hit free agency. Carter definitely fits Nick Nurse's system, making him a candidate for the 16 pick if the 76ers keep the pick.
