The leak on the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL and 9 Pro Fold suggests muted colors

Color code names for upcoming Google devices are often revealed well in advance of official assets or live images. Hand in hand with today's wallpapers, we'll take a look at the colors for the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

The color code names, which may not all be published or changed by then, are shared by Android Authority Are:

Pixel 9

  • Obsidian
  • porcelain
  • jade
  • Peony

Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL

  • Obsidian
  • porcelain
  • hazel
  • rose

Pixel 9 Pro Fold

  • Obsidian
  • Porcelain or “gold”

Obsidian is a plain black, as seen in the leaked live images. Note the role played by the glossy (Pixel 9) and matte (Pixel 9 Pro) surfaces on the back.

Porcelain is the other thing these four phones have in common. The Pixel 8a (see above) tends more towards beige than a strong white.

As far as unique colors go, we have Jade on the Pixel 9. Last year, Jade on the Pixel 8 was a dark hazel that could be mistaken for gray. It was even darker than the 7 Pro's Hazel. Peony would be another iteration, transferred to Rose upon release.

Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 8

On the Pixel 9 Pro series we have Hazel and Rose. Notably, these are the final launch colors for last year's small phone. However, if it's just codenames today, that suggests the color/name will be different at launch.

Both would be slightly more subdued than the Mint and Bay we have on the 8 Pro today, although hopefully Google hasn't toned down the vibrancy that made the blue Pixel 8 Pro special. Rose certainly doesn't sound as bold as Coral on the Pixel 7a.

Pixel 7a, Pixel 8

We're in for a possible repeat on the front of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, as the current porcelain is definitely gold to me.
