Porsche accident in Pune: teenage driver is released on bail, subject to conditions such as community service or therapy

A 17-year-old driver was behind the wheel of one Sports car involved in fatal accident in Pune was released on bail by a juvenile court under certain conditions. A couple on a two-wheeler lost their lives in the accident that occurred at Koregaon Park early Sunday morning.

Although details of the bail hearing were not made public, police officials said the court did not consider the crime “serious” enough to deny bail. According to the court's order, issued within 14 hours of the minor's detention, several conditions were imposed for his release:

  • Cooperate with the traffic police for 15 days.
  • Undergoes psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
  • Helping accident victims in the future if he witnesses it.

According to reports, the teenager, the son of a famous builder, rammed the Porsche he was driving into a motorcycle carrying Anis Dudhiya and Ashwini Costa, residents of Rajasthan. According to the police FIR, Costa died on the spot while Dudhiya succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

A video has emerged online showing the teenager being beaten by a crowd at the scene of the accident.

Yerawada police station has registered a case against the driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act, including rash driving and culpable homicide.
