Mumbai Indians star Rohit Sharma was not a happy man after his private conversation was recorded by Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 broadcaster Star Sports and leaked on social media. Although the channel has the right to cover cricketers and their teams on and off the field, Rohit had reportedly requested Star Sports not to record his private conversations during the ongoing season. Seeing his plea falling on deaf ears, the MI opening batsman and Tea India captain publicly criticized the broadcaster for “invasion of privacy”.

“Cricket players' lives have become so intrusive that cameras now record every step and conversation we have in private with our friends and colleagues, during training or on match days,” Rohit Sharma wrote in a tweet on Sunday after the end of Mumbai Indian campaign.

“Although I asked Star Sports not to record my conversation, it was and was played on air, which is a breach of privacy. The need to get exclusive content and focus only on views and engagement will one day destroy the trust between fans, cricketers and cricketers,” he added in the chat.

Fans also joined Rohit and criticized the channel for “violation of privacy”.

Over the last week, there have been several instances where Rohit did not want certain conversations to be made public. Initially, it was his conversation with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) assistant coach Abhishek Nayar that created a storm on social media.

In the said chat, Rohit was said to have spoken about the changes that have taken place at Mumbai Indians since Hardik Pandya took over the captaincy. The Hitman also seemed to have confirmed during the chat that this was his final season with MI.

In another conversation, Rohit asked the cameraman not to record any more personal videos as one of them had already caused him a lot of damage, hinting at the Abhishek Nayar chat controversy.
