Evacuation order lifted after gas leak in Lynn – Boston News, Weather, Sports

LYNN, MASS. (WHDH) – Evacuation orders have been lifted after a gas leak in Lynn on Monday caused residents to leave the area for hours, officials said.

The Lynn Fire Department said in a post on Facebook around 3:15 p.m. that there was an ongoing leak on Orchard Street between Summer Street and Aspen Street.

Crews worked with National Grid to shut off the gas supply, but the fire department warned: “This will take some time.”

Firefighters said emergency crews had begun evacuating near the site where the gas leaked.

“If you live in the area and are asked to evacuate, please do so,” officials said.

As evacuations continued, officials said there were people at St. Michael's Hall on Elmwood Ave. 25 temporary accommodation will be set up.

SKY7-HD was over the scene early Monday afternoon and saw a construction vehicle stopped near an open ditch. Firefighters were seen working nearby.

Fire officials said the leak was “stopped” by 5:30 p.m. and residents were allowed to return to their homes. However, homes in the area could be without gas for a period of time, officials said.
