49ers QB Purdy gives a refreshing look at newfound NFL fame

49ers QB Purdy shares refreshing views on his newfound NFL fame. Originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

It's no secret that Brock Purdy is a humble guy, and the 49ers quarterback hasn't changed one bit since his celebrity status rose in the weeks before and after Super Bowl LVIII.

So far this offseason, Purdy has had a lot of fun in the Bay – throwing out the first pitch at a Giants game, throwing beer into the audience on stage with Luke Combs, and even managing to appear in a commercial or two. The 24-year-old takes it all in stride and has a refreshing take on his newfound fame.

“Yes, of course it’s a little different. But at the end of the day, and I've said this a million times, I try to keep it simple when it comes to who I am as a person, as a human being,” Purdy told reporters in Santa Clara on Tuesday at the start of the organized Team activities.

“There are people who come and want pictures. I was such a kid growing up and I always wanted the person I looked up to or whoever to have time for me and just be human, talk , took a picture and signed a few things. That's what I'll always remember. And through all of this, in the offseason and different things, I try to give back to people as much as I can and not put myself on a pedestal or anything something.

“So that's how I look at it. But you know, we were able to enjoy some different events and stuff. We had an offseason, not just rehab 24/7, so it was good to hang out with the guys outside of football,” and it was a little offseason.

Purdy's teammate Nick Bosa has noticed a difference in his QB – but only when it comes to football. He even compared Purdy to PGA Tour player Scottie Scheffler, known for his good nature (and, more recently, perhaps ironically, his recent arrest at the PGA Championship).

“I find [Purdy’s] “Definitely he’s getting a little louder in the building,” Bosa told reporters Tuesday. “And yeah, I don't think he'll ever change.” I don't think he's someone who will change even if he gets his salary next year. He's a man of faith and kind of reminds me of Scottie Scheffler, except he got arrested. Just super humble and a really good kid.

“And yes, he is definitely famous. He is definitely famous.”

In just two NFL seasons, Purdy has already gone from Mr. Irrelevant to the league's all-time leader. It's clear the QB and the 49ers don't plan on giving up that relevance any time soon either, so this could be just the beginning of what's to come for the young signal-caller.

Despite all of this, the 49ers can be confident that Purdy has a good head on his shoulders. But they certainly already knew that.
