Thunder's Bismack Biyombo Journey is the subject of the OKCThunder Films project

OKLAHOMA CITY, Friday, May 24, 2024 – Today, OKCThunder Films released the trailer for its latest project, BISMACK. The story takes viewers through the challenges, conflicts and triumphs of Oklahoma City Thunder center Bismack Biyombo. The film will premiere for free on Friday, June 7th at 7:30 p.m. at the Harkins Theater as part of the 24th Annual Academy Awards.th annual deadCenter film festival.

Growing up in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Biyombo dreamed of playing in the NBA before he even put on basketball shoes. His teenage basketball career took him to several countries before he made his dream come true and was drafted into the NBA in 2011. His parents in Congo discouraged him from taking that journey, but his heart and his drive to excel led him in a different direction, without forgetting his roots.

Biyombo's true dream was more than just basketball. He wanted to make his home country a place where people want to stay and not move away to pursue other opportunities. During his NBA career, he has raised millions of dollars to build schools, sports facilities and health programs. One season, he even donated his entire NBA salary to build a hospital in Congo in honor of his father, who died of COVID.

“This is the seventh OKCThunder film to premiere at deadCenter,” said Dan Mahoney, co-executive producer of OKCThunder Films. “We love the partnership and creative energy the festival brings to our community. This year, we are proud to tell Bismack's story.”

Portions of the film were shot using cutting-edge technology at One Set Studio in Oklahoma City, including the use of One Set's dynamic and immersive 40-foot-wide curved LED wall as a virtual backdrop.

Other OKCThunder Films projects that debuted at deadCenter include Mr. Thunder (2018), Growing Up George (2019), The Everyday Saint (2020), Pause the Game (2021), Seeds of Greenwood (2022) and Steps (2023). Several of these have won regional Emmy Awards, and Seeds of Greenwood has screened at the White House and South by Southwest education conference.
