High School Sports Recap: LSCHS wins 8th straight PCL title, district title, heads to states | CHS plays ASHS in 2nd round of SOL flag football | Upper Moreland and Springfield LAX lose in districts

The La Salle College High School boys lacrosse team captured its eighth consecutive Pennsylvania Catholic League title after defeating St. Joseph's Prep 11-3 in the PCL championship game.

With the win, the Explorers also clinch the District 12 AAA title and a spot in the PIAA State Tournament, which begins June 4.

In related La Salle news, Bobby Franklin, Will Palopoli and Gavin Muller won medals at the District 12 3A and PCL championships.

Franklin, a freshman, took home two gold medals, in the 1,600-meter run (4:21.27) at the district championships and in the mile run (4:21.26) at the PCL championships.

Palopoli, a senior, won the boys 3,200-meter run at both the District 12 and PCL championships and ran his season-best time of 9:26.98 at districts.

Muller took first place in the boys' discus at both the PCL and District 12 Championships and took third place in the PCL high jump and shot put.

Luke Coleman of Abington Senior High School took third place in the 400-meter dash at the District One 3A Championships with a time of 48.84.

Cheltenham High School Girls Flag Football

The Lady Panthers continued their winning streak by defeating Central Bucks East 13-0 in the first round of the Suburban One League playoffs on Wednesday.

The season record is now 8:1.

“Our greatest success this season was that we went from being bottom of the table last season, not winning a single season and game, to the best offense in the league, the third best defense in the league, to the second best team in the league at the end of SOL league games,” said coach DJ McFadden.

Junior quarterback Jiah Price has rushed for 1,300 yards and 37 touchdowns this season, sophomore running back Paige Powell has 30 carries for 400 yards, sophomore Maya Simmons has 35 pass catches for 550 yards and nine touchdowns, senior Tabitha Sterman has three interceptions, 45 flag pulls, two pass deflections and 20 catches for 200 yards and four touchdowns, and seniors Amelia Kopp and Arianna Davis have combined for 85 catches for 800 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The Panthers will face Abington Senior High School in the second round on Tuesday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m. in Wyncote.

Upper Moreland Girls Lacrosse

The Upper Moreland High School girls lacrosse team lost to Bishop Shanahan 8-7 in the District 1 AA semifinals.

Accordingly PhillyLacrosse.com, Annalise Messina had three goals, one assist and five ties in the game. Molly Meakim added two goals and two assists, Olivia Meakim added one goal and two assists and Keira Hess added one goal. Goalie Addi Hurley made 11 saves in the game.

Springfield Township Girls Lacrosse

Springfield Township High School was defeated by Villa Maria Academy in the District 1 AA semifinals by a score of 6-5 in overtime.

Accordingly PhillyLacrosse.com, Fiona Rizzo scored three goals, Emma Yoder scored one goal and goalkeeper Tess Talbot saved twelve shots for the Spartans.
