Trump sends cease and desist letter to the film “The Apprentice,” which shows the rape of his then-wife Ivana

Donald Trump is apparently not happy about a film that documents his rise to superstardom and the dark secrets behind it, including a depiction of the rape of his then-wife Ivana.

Variety reports that the former president, who was found guilty by a New York court of sexually assaulting another woman, E. Jean Carroll, has sent a cease-and-desist letter to the team behind “The Apprentice,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this May.

“The film is a fair and balanced portrait of the former president,” the film's production team said in a statement to Variety. “We want everyone to see it and then form their own opinion.”

The film, in which Marvel star Sebastian Stan plays Trump and “Succession” lead Jeremy Strong plays Trump's mentor Roy Cohn, does not yet have a distributor, and legal action could make the film's release difficult.

Trump's lawmakers sharply attacked the film, calling it “pure malicious slander” and threatening to block a distribution deal or face consequences.

“[The film] “The film should never see the light of day and does not even deserve a place in the bargain bin of a soon-to-be-closed video store discount store. It belongs in the trash,” Steven Cheung, communications director for the Trump campaign, said in a statement to Variety.

It is unclear whether the specific scene was mentioned in the letter, but to be valid, a defamation suit brought by the former president would have to prove that the statements in the film are false and that the producers were negligent in fact-checking the claims.

Ivana Trump, who died in 2022, divorced the then-businessman in 1990 and subsequently described feeling “violated” during sex with Trump.

Trump has made no secret of his penchant for abusing women, telling TV host Billy Bush that he could “grab them.” [women] of the pussy” without consent, because of his fame.
