Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton and Ariana Grande are among the celebrities exposed in a massive nude photo leak

Nude photos of “Hunger Games” stars Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Kirsten Dunst, among many others, surfaced online on Sunday in one of the biggest celebrity hacking scandals in recent history.

The images, first uploaded to photo-sharing site 4chan, appeared to show most of the celebrities nude or partially clothed and likely came from mobile phones and email accounts.

A spokesman for Lawrence confirmed that the photos were genuine and accused the hackers of a “blatant invasion of privacy.”

“The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who publishes the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence,” her representative warned.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, another actress exposed by the leak, immediately condemned the images on Twitter.

A total of 101 celebrities were allegedly hacked, although it is unclear how many of the photos circulating were actually real. Actress Victoria Justice insisted her photos were fake, while other stars like Lena Dunham condemned the invasion of privacy on Twitter.

Other names on the list include Aubrey Plaza, Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Hudgens, Rihanna, Lea Michele, Hillary Duff, Cat Deeley and US soccer star Hope Solo.

While authorities try to determine how the offensive photos got online, one thing remains clear: Hollywood stars have become a favorite target of hackers in recent years.

In 2012, a judge sentenced Christopher Cheney to ten years in prison for stealing nude photos and personal information from the email accounts of several well-known celebrities, including Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis and Christina Aguilera.

“Just because you're an actor or you make movies or whatever, it doesn't mean you don't have a right to your own privacy,” Johansson told CNN after the incident.

Other victims of the data theft include “Mad Men” star Christina Hendricks, Blake Lively, Vanessa Hudgens and “Twilight” actress Ashley Green and Olivia Munn.
