Will there be another Mad Max movie after Furiosa?

WE ARE IN A era in which some of our best action film series are also among the longest running. Tom Cruise's Impossible mission The series has produced a steady, stunt-filled Ethan Hunt festival every few years since the first installment, directed by Brian De Palma, was released in 1996. The Fast and the Furious has been running for more than two decades. Indiana Jones And TopGun have released their latest installments relatively recently, both more than 30 years after their first film. Damn, even John Wick is now over 10 years old. But none of them ran as long (or as loosely and quickly with continuity) as George Miller's epic Mad Max Franchise.

While the franchise began with the low-budget 1979 film Mad Max, The budget and ambitions quickly grew for two sequels in the 80s that delved into the film’s post-apocalyptic landscape: The Road Warrior (also known as MadMax 2) in 1981 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome in 1985. After that, development stagnated for 30 years.

However, there is not a soul who would tell you that the Mad Max The wait was not worth it, because in 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road, one of the most technically impressive action spectacles you will ever see, and without question one of the best films of all time. Fury Road won six Oscars, and the film itself was nominated for Best Picture and Miller for Best Director. This kept audiences excited and hungry long enough to push production forward Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, The prequel story tells the story of Furiosas (played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road) Youth.

Furious was finally released and received with great acclaim. But despite Miller's age (he turned 79 in March), this was not to be the end of the Mad Max History; he announced Mad Max: The Wasteland already in 2015 and has repeatedly pointed this out in the following years (despite the further development of production on Furious First).

Now that the film Imperator Furiosa has been released – and is both well received and threatening to become a box office hit – it is worth speculating when and how the Mad Max The franchise continues on the big screen.

Will there be another Mad Max Film after Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga?

Warner Bros.

Miller and his company want another Mad Max Film, titled (currently) Mad Max: The Wasteland. But the possibility of making this film will probably depend on the box office results Furious.

“The Mad Max The world is very much alive and it is in George's imagination,” says Guy Norris, action designer for Furious and Miller's longtime stunt collaborator, said in a recent interview with Men's health. “There is already another very, very well developed project called The Wasteland. We are in the lap of the audience gods, what everyone thinks of it. If everything goes well, I hope that soon we will be somewhere in the Australian desert again and the Mad Max Saga.”

In an interview with The AV Club, Miller said he and Nico Lathouris (his co-author for both Fury Road And Furious) wrote “not a script, but almost in novel form… what happened to Max the year before” and that “that's something we'll look at later.”

So it is likely that this is the source for The Wastelanda prequel that takes place in the year before the events of Street of Rage. Whether Tom Hardy would return for this film or whether the role would be recast remains to be seen.
