LSU Football brings its entire squad to campus for summer training

While many are enjoying their Memorial Day, the LSU football program is preparing for its summer workouts. That means a busy weekend of travel for the LSU football team and staff as the team returns to Baton Rouge while some new additions arrive.

The team will begin its summer workouts on Tuesday so the staff can see how the new and returning players are doing in terms of strength and conditioning. While the returnees are back on campus, the most excitement will be among the players joining the team for the first time.

The upcoming spring transfers will be one of the more important storylines, as both play the position LSU needs help at. Defensive tackles Jay'Viar Suggs and Gio Paez both joined the Tigers this spring and will both be in position to start this year. Getting Jay'Viar Suggs on campus is especially important, as he is taking a massive step forward in terms of competition, and the reps he gets this summer will be important to his development, as he may be going up against the best offensive line in the nation.

This weekend also sees the team join the 13 incoming freshmen who did not early enroll at LSU. The biggest name to keep an eye on is five-star defensive tackle Dominick McKinley, as the Tigers are in desperate need of talented defensive tackles and McKinley could earn a starting position with a strong summer.

On offense, Caden Durham will be the biggest name to watch this summer, as he should get a lot of playing time this season due to Trey Holly's legal issues. Trey'Dez Green will be an exciting name to watch this summer, and the tight end has the talent to be a big receiving threat in the future.

The summer will be spent building a true college football contender for the LSU football team. Bo Davis will have one of the most important tasks as he will have limited time to prepare Jay'Viar Suggs, Gio Paez and Dominick McKinley for the first game against USC. The returning defensive linemen will continue to get familiar with Blake Baker's defense as the group looks to make a complete turnaround in 2023 after a terrible season. This LSU football team has a lot to get fans excited about and with a solid summer, this team could be ready to return to the College Football Playoffs.
