Texas A&M football team battles West Coast program for five-star safety

The Texas A&M football team is slowly building an extremely impressive recruiting class for the 2025 cycle. One of the best measures of the quality of a class is the blue chip ratio – in other words, the percentage of your roster that had four or five stars. A “championship level” – the hurdle a program must clear to compete for a national championship – is 50%. This class currently sits at 83%.

As if that wasn't impressive enough, all of this was accomplished with many of the Aggies' most talented prospects still on the field. One of those prospects in particular is explosive athlete from Galveson, Jonah Williams. The five-star prospect can play both safety and linebacker, and that versatility, along with his physical skills, makes him one of the best players in the country – he's the seventh-best player overall, according to the draft rating.

The Aggies have had their eyes on Williams lately after some national recruiting experts predicted they would get him. After a lot of OU momentum earlier this year, this is a big move by the Aggie team.

Now a report has surfaced from Jaxson Callaway (AggiesToday for those of you who know the brand rather than the person) that while the Aggies are indeed still in pole position, they are actually battling for Williams' services not with the Oklahoma Sooners, but with the Oregon Ducks.

The Aggies have positioned themselves well by taking the top spot, and if Oregon is indeed the main contender here, I have a good shot at the Aggies. Williams is a key player that would take this already impressive DB recruiting class for Texas A&M football to the next level.

Dan Lanning and his colleagues are formidable opponents, but I trust Mike Elko to help get this project across the finish line. Hopefully there will be news on that front soon, but for now I'm happy with the work Elko and his colleagues have done so far.
