Nicki Minaj apologizes after arrest in the Netherlands

Dutch military police said they had arrested a 41-year-old American woman with “soft drugs” at Schiphol Airport.


Nicki Minaj apologized to her fans after she was forced to miss a show due to her arrest in Amsterdam. Following a tour stop in the country, police arrested Minaj, claiming she was carrying drugs. Although smoking marijuana for pleasure is legal in Amsterdam, transporting it is illegal. Minaj recorded a video of her arrest and posted it on social media, which quickly went viral.

As CBS News One of Minaj's videos reportedly featured an unnamed man telling the rapper that police were going to “search all of her luggage.”

The man continued: “The police officer told me we would have to unload all your luggage and search everything inside. He (a police officer) does not believe you have more with you than you said.”

In the video, officers told Minaj that she was “under arrest” for “drug possession” and ordered her to get into a van to be taken to the police station. According to CBS News, Minaj denied the allegations and demanded to speak to her attorney. Minaj is in the middle of her “Pink Friday World Tour 2” and was en route from Amsterdam to Manchester, England, for her show at Co-Op Live.

Accordingly The guardthere was some miscommunication on the part of the venue about where exactly Minaj was, which led to some fans expressing disappointment in the rapper. Fan Olivia Gibson, 21, told the outlet that she believes Minaj disappointed her fans, suggesting this is part of a larger pattern with the rapper. “I'm appalled. But in a way, I'm not shocked,” Gibson said. “And it's not Co-op Live's fault. She just disappointed all of her fans.”

Although Minaj apologized to her fans on social media, she also seemed to suggest that the detention was part of some sort of conspiracy against her.

“They succeeded in their plan to not let me on stage tonight,” Minaj wrote cryptically. “Please, please, please accept my deepest and most sincere apologies. They knew exactly how to hurt me today, but this too shall pass. They have done this over and over and over and over and over and I have tried so hard not to talk about it because [because] You deserve only the good. I hate to involve you in anything that isn't just for entertainment purposes.”

Minaj also announced in a series of posts to X that she would take legal action. “After sitting in a jail cell for 5-6 hours, my plane didn't take off until 20 minutes after boarding. The flight was 50 minutes. 50 minutes.”

Minaj continued, “That's why they had to do the big song and the big dance, because they knew that even if it came down to my last 90 minutes in the building, which was until 11:30 p.m., I would still find a way to perform. The building was willing to stay past 11 p.m. I'm so grateful to them for that.”

Minaj concluded, “So your plan to not let me on stage tonight worked. I got to the bottom of it by recording it and posting everything in real time. I have sooooooooo much video evidence. You wouldn't believe it if I told you. But I'm going to let the lawyers and GOD take it from here.”
