Katy Perry shoots music video in St. George

Have you ever heard the expression “an oldie but a goodie”? That's exactly what this song and music video is. Katy Perry's 2016 hit “Rise” was the official song of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. But did you know that the music video for “Rise” was shot almost entirely here in Southern Utah? That's right! It's one of the greatest music videos of all time and was filmed at Snow Canyon State Park and Sand Hollow Reservoir. The video has been viewed over 213,000,000 times and for good reason! It's awesome!

On making the video for Rise, Katy says, “Hey guys, we're here in Utah. This isn't all CGI, we're not on the back lot of a studio… It's beautiful here, the scenery. It's very National Geographic. I get very dirty.” Katy admits that this is one of the harder music videos she's ever made. “Why do I keep doing this to myself?!”

Perry continued, “We were in Utah. We were in Los Angeles. It was a great three days, very physically demanding and exhausting and hot. I should have gotten in better shape!”

Below you can find the official music video for “Rise” as well as the making of the music video, both found on Katy Perry's YouTube channel. I hope you enjoy!

This music video is great and it's especially exciting to watch it and recognize the whole area! Check out both videos and hear Katy talk about what she thinks about Southern Utah!
