Pacers vs. Celtics game prediction for Game 4 of the NBA playoff series

play

INDIANAPOLIS – The Pacers have reached unassailable territory. No NBA team has ever been able to fall behind 3-0 in a playoff series and then come back. Very few have been able to force a seventh game.

The Pacers could have easily taken a 2-1 lead after losing two games by a combined eight points, building late leads in both games. But things didn't work out for them against the NBA's best team of the season, the Boston Celtics, and now reaching the NBA Finals means they must do what has proven impossible so far.

Still, the Pacers must keep playing, and their first goal is to find a way to make sure the Celtics don't celebrate their trip to the NBA Finals on the floor of Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Pacers' playoff run has been far more successful than many imagined at the start, but they don't want it to end with a sweep.

Doyel: The 2024 Pacers are ahead of schedule and just good enough to break your heart.

Here's our prediction for Game 4 on Monday at 8 p.m. at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Dustin Dopirak, Pacers sports reporter: It's hard to imagine the Pacers becoming the first team to overcome a 3-0 deficit in a series with four straight wins. They've won four or more games in a row only once all season, and six straight regular-season wins — even if those games included a victory over the Knicks and two over the Bucks — isn't the same as four wins over the Celtics, including two in Boston.

But I believe the Pacers are motivated to get just one win to make sure there's no cup celebration at Gainbridge Fieldhouse and that they can at least get back to Boston one more time. I think the Celtics did it there, but after their performance on Saturday against Haliburton, I think they still have enough firepower to win one more game. Their season probably ends Wednesday in Boston, but it says here it continues Monday night. NBA 2019/20 season opener.
