The wallpaper revival

Wallpapers have always been timeless, but they will establish themselves as one of the most important interior design trends this year.

Wallpaper has always been timeless, but this year it will establish itself as one of the top interior design trends.

Amthal Karim, Head of Design at Furniture And Choice, shares the latest wallpaper trends, styling tips, and color and pattern ideas that are big this year.

“Wallpaper is trending right now, no matter what decor you choose. Last year alone, there were nearly 370,000 searches on Google about wallpaper. Whether you want to incorporate it into your color scheme or make a bold statement, the right wallpaper will transform your home. So what are the big wallpaper trends in 2024? Like many interior design trends this year, the latest wallpaper trends reflect the trendy colors and changes in our lifestyles.

Color drenching is an example of a trend that wallpaper fits perfectly with. Since it's all about decorating your room in one color, choose the palette first. The wallpaper in the chosen color can take up the whole room or a single wall. If you think wallpapering the whole room is too much, don't make the mistake of focusing on one wall instead. For this trend, opt for bold prints or even textured wallpaper to make the room seem less one-dimensional.

You can even combine this with the wall panel trend by covering one half of the wall with wallpaper and the bottom half with wall panels. Painting the wall panels this color will unify the room and give it a soft, cozy feel. The wallpaper and wall panel combination is also a nod to classic interiors and marks the rise of the Regency-core style thanks to the popularity of the Netflix series Bridgerton.

If you're a big fan of floral wallpaper, there are plenty of trends to choose from this year. For those who love classic florals, the modern heritage trend captures nostalgia with florals, checks and traditional patterns not only on wallpaper, but also on fabrics and furniture.

Floral patterns fit perfectly with the botanical print trend (of course!), where the bigger (the print) the better. This also ties in with biophilic design, which is bringing nature inside through interiors. With wallpaper as a backdrop, decorating with houseplants and bouquets makes it much easier.

Maximalism is another trend that wallpaper fits perfectly with. As we move further away from calm, minimalist interiors, wallpaper is the best way to achieve this bold aesthetic. Go wild with a dramatic geometric pattern, colorful stripes, or a larger-than-life floral or botanical print on the walls. After years of grays and neutrals, now is the time to be versatile and give your home a vibrant personality. Don't be afraid to show your personality through bold color schemes like pink, blue, or green.
