Coconut Creek Crime Update: Man arrested for possession of machine gun

This is a summary of crime and arrests in Coconut Creek through May 27, 2024, compiled as part of our joint effort with the Coconut Creek Police Department to keep residents informed.

Damage to property

On May 22, 2024, a property damage victim was reported at Bayview on Coral Tree Circle. A water leak forced the Coconut Creek Fire Department to make a forced entry.

theft

On 05/24/2024, a theft of auto parts/accessories was reported at Bayport on W 30 Street. Total estimated damage was $1,400. Theft of Toyota wheels was reported.

On 05/24/2024, a theft of auto parts/accessories was reported at 4 Applewood at Carambola Circle. Total estimated damage was $1,400. Toyota Carolla XE wheels were reported stolen.

Home Depot was the victim of a theft – shoplifting on N State Road 7 was reported on 05/23/2024. The total estimated loss was $734.

Home Depot was the victim of a theft – shoplifting on State Road 7 was reported on 05/22/2024. The total estimated loss was $329.

Home Depot was the victim of a theft – shoplifting on N State Road 7 was reported on 05/22/2024. The total estimated damage was $279.

Kohls was the victim of a theft – shoplifting on N State Road 7 was reported on 05/22/2024. The total estimated loss was $552.

Publix was the victim of a theft – shoplifting on Coconut Creek Parkway was reported on 05/23/2024. The total estimated loss was $464.

Walmart was the victim of a theft – shoplifting at W Hillsboro Blvd was reported on 05/22/2024. The total estimated damage was $136.

Walgreens was the victim of a theft – shoplifting on Coconut Creek Parkway was reported on 05/22/2024. The total estimated damage was $47.

On May 22, 2024, a theft from a motor vehicle was reported at The Landings on Lighthouse Circle.

battery

On May 23, 2024, a victim of assault – simple touch/strike – was reported in NW 2 Court.

Suspicious death

On May 25, 2024, a death – suspicious/unknown – was reported on W Hillsboro Blvd. A 56-year-old man was found dead in the woods.

Property – lost/stolen

On 05/26/2024, a victim of loss/theft of property was reported in Wynmoor at Nassau Bend. The total estimated damage was $150.

Fraud

On 05/26/2024, one fraud case was reported – use of a credit/debit card at Waterview on W Hillsboro Blvd. The total estimated loss was $150. Fraudulent Uber Eat charges were reported.

Arrests

Friedman, Catherina Engels, 65, was arrested on 05/22/2024 for assault on a person 65 years of age or older.

Anderson, Brett Neal, 53, was arrested on 05/23/2024 at 4600 Coconut Creek Parkway for Petty Theft – 2nd Degree – 3rd Subsequence Offense.

Velazquez, Ernesto, 52, was arrested on 05/23/2024 on a charge of grand larceny >$750 <$5000 at 4450 State Road 7.

Cortes, Mark Paul, 47, was arrested on 05/24/2024 for assault at 6950 N State Road 7.

Jenkins, James Alexander, 21, was arrested on 05/25/2024 on a charge of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs (1st Offense) at 3800 Coconut Creek Parkway.
