42-year-old man in stable condition after being shot at Harford Mall Sunday afternoon, Bel Air police say – Baltimore Sun

A 42-year-old man was shot at Harford Mall on Sunday afternoon, a Bel Air police spokesman said.

The shooting occurred around 4 p.m. and the victim was flown by helicopter to a trauma center in Baltimore in stable condition, police said. Police also said a suspect was identified and his vehicle was found unoccupied in Edgewood.

“Based on witness statements, they were able to identify a possible suspect's vehicle, which in turn led to a possible suspect in the shooting, who is also an adult male,” said police spokesman Keith Smithson. “We have identified them, so there is no particular risk that we need to have the public search for.”

Police said there was no active shooter involved, the scene was cordoned off and the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident involving the victim and the suspect.

“It is sad and absolutely unbearable to see such a blatant disregard for life, especially the lives of our children. I am grateful for the swift, highly professional, well-coordinated and extremely effective response of first responders,” Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly said in a statement.

The department and the Harford County Sheriff's Office asked the public to avoid the area while they investigate the shooting. A spokesman for Harford Mall owner CBL Properties declined to comment Sunday evening.

“I have every confidence in these agencies to ensure that today's incidents are properly investigated,” said County Councilman Aaron Penman, who is also the county sheriff's sergeant. “It's unfortunate that these things happen, but I don't believe this is unique to our jurisdiction.”
