Teenager arrested for possession of weapons in Dorchester

DORCHESTER, MA—A 14-year-old boy was arrested by officers from the Boston Police Department's B-3 (Mattapan) District for possession of a firearm. The arrest occurred at approximately 6:55 p.m. Saturday in Harambee Park between New England and Blue Hill Avenues.

Boston police were monitoring an event in the park when they noticed the young man conspicuously holding a fanny pack under his left arm. As officers approached, the young man attempted to blend into the crowd and briefly eluded officers. They later spotted him sitting on a ledge in the middle of a group of people, still clutching the fanny pack tightly.

During a second approach, officers asked the suspect to submit for a body search. During the investigation, they recovered a Smith & Wesson gun from his belt pouch. The gun was loaded, with one round in the chamber and twelve rounds in the magazine, and its serial number had been obscured.

The youth was taken into custody without further incident.
