3 injured, 2 arrested after shooting near busy Fort Lauderdale park

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida. – Families watched their children play soccer at Mills Pond Park in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday. A woman was watching television in a neighboring house. She said she heard the sudden “tu, tu, tu” of rapid fire — what sounded to others like fireworks.

Firefighters responded to the area between Northwest 15th Avenue and 22nd Street in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday afternoon, found three injured men and took them to Broward Health Medical Center.

The shooting left numerous bullet holes in a white BMW, shattered three windows and left at least 22 marks at the scene. Residents were also horrified, saying they could not remember if they had ever heard gunshots on their street before.

According to Sergeant Patrick O'Brien, a spokesman for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, one man who was shot had to undergo back surgery and the other two men suffered injuries to their legs and arms.

O'Brien also said her injuries were not life-threatening. Still, relatives waited desperately outside the medical center Sunday evening, hoping for news about her condition.

According to O'Brien, police arrested two suspects after a chase and found three weapons in their car. Local 10 News has filed a request for the identities of the three injured and the two arrested.

Investigators asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
