DK Shivakumar did not accept INDIA bloc's defeat; viral video was edited to mislead

Did Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar say that the INDIA bloc will not form the government after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections? Just a day before the results of the Lok Sabha elections, a video with Shivakumar This claim was widely shared. In the seven-second clip, Shivakumar can be heard saying, “I don't think we will form a government. INDIA will form it.”

A X-user shares viral clip wrote: “And they accept defeat, DK Shivakumar says INDI will not form the government.” His archive can be viewed Here. The viral clip was also shared on Facebook with a similar claim.

India Today Fact Check noted that the viral video is edited. DK Shivakumar had said that he did not believe in the bypoll predictions and that the INDIA bloc would form the government.


A reverse search for keyframes from the viral clip led us to a news agency ANI article about X. On June 3, ANI shared a 14-second clip by DK Shivakumar's Byte. In this clip, a reporter asked about the Congress's prediction of the election result, to which Shivakumar replied, “All seven seats we will win.” However, it was unclear which state the reporter and Shivakumar were referring to.

The reporter then asked, “What is the reaction to this exit poll?” Shivakumar replied, “I don't think INDIA will form the government.”

After the seventh and final phase on June 1, various news channels presented their Post-election poll data that predicted a clear majority for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance. However, the Congress Party and other members of the INDIA bloc have claimed that the Election day polls will prove wrong on June 4, the counting day.

It is therefore clear that the video clipping of DK Shivakumar is being shared with a misleading context.
