Congressman's speech in the House of Representatives goes viral after his son makes faces in the background

The son of a congressman was the star of the show in the House of Representatives on Monday: He went viral for making faces in the background while his father spoke.

Republican Rep. John Rose of Tennessee and his six-year-old son Guy appeared on “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday following the moment.

“I certainly didn't expect that when I told him to smile at Sam. I thought maybe his little three-year-old brother, who is at home with his mom, would enjoy seeing Guy on TV,” Rose told Steve Doocy.

Rose said he brought his son to work this week because his son recently graduated from kindergarten and he is trying to share childcare with his wife, Chelsea, who also works full time.

In his remarks on Monday, he focused on his reaction to the conviction of former President Trump, which he called a “setback” for the entire country.

“Regardless of one's opinion of the current Republican candidate, we would do well to remember our country's long and cherished tradition of settling our political differences at the ballot box,” he said.

But few viewers heard his remarks as they were quickly distracted by Guy in the background.

“Man, your dad put you in that special chair to be on TV, and you were,” Doocy said. “And we see you right now… What are you doing?”

“I'm making a symbol… for my brother to make him laugh,” Guy replied, explaining that he was trying to spell his brother's name.

Guy then said that his father's job in Congress was “boring.”

“It's actually a very interesting job,” Rose said. “I've learned a lot of things that you learn from the constituents you represent…”

“He’s not telling the truth,” Guy murmured quietly.

“He took a power nap yesterday,” Rose said. “I don't usually manage that.”

When Doocy asked if he had anything else to say to viewers, Guy replied, “Not really.”

“Would you like to say hello to anyone?” Doocy pressed, as laughter could be heard from off-screen.

“Not at all,” replied Guy.
