Prince William laughs on stage thanks to a singing fan in a viral clip

Two years after the hilarious moment, an impromptu clip of a fan making Prince William laugh on stage is making the rounds on social media.

On June 4, 2022, Prince William took the stage outside Buckingham Palace in London at the Platinum Party at the Palace. The star-studded concert – featuring performances by the Queen + Adam Lambert, Diana Ross, Rod Stewart, Alicia Keys and more – was just one highlight of the celebrations for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee, marking her historic 70 years on the throne.

Before Prince William began his speech, which included a joke about his grandmother's age, he was greeted with cheers, according to a TikTok video filmed by a fan near the stage. One audience member began singing, “We love you, William, we do.” Although the royal did not turn to acknowledge the singer, it was clear he had heard the song, as he giggled – while still being careful not to miss his cue. The prince quickly recovered his composure and began his speech a few seconds later.

“My friend made Prince William laugh,” read the caption of the video, which has been viewed over 250,000 times.

Prince William, now 41, attended the concert with Kate Middleton, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, as well as other members of the British royal family. Queen Elizabeth, who was 96 at the time of the event and died months later in September, did not attend the Platinum Party at the palace due to her ongoing “mobility issues,” but PEOPLE confirmed that she watched the show on television from her home at Windsor Castle.

The entire evening was dedicated to the historic reign of Queen Elizabeth, and it began with a surprise that surprised even the royals: a humorous, recorded sketch featuring the Queen and Paddington Bear drinking tea! When Paddington Bear said he always had a sandwich with him, the Queen quipped, “Me too,” and pulled one out of her famous handbag.

The Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which took place from 2 to 5 June 2022, also included this year's Trooping the Colour parade to mark the monarch's official birthday, a service of thanksgiving attended by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, and the grand finale: the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, which featured iconic moments from the Queen's seven decades of reign.

Prince Louis was the center of attention at the Platinum Jubilee Pageant with his enthusiastic waving, lively faces and interactions with his siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

“He's a cheeky monkey – a typical third child,” someone who knows the family told PEOPLE at the time. “It's nice that the world got to see him having fun.”

Even Prince William and Kate couldn't help but acknowledge their son's spectacular moments. The royal couple ended the four-day celebrations with a fun social media post that read: “We all had an incredible time, especially Louis…”
