Trailer for “The Killer's Game” gives a taste of new action film with Dave Bautista

Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Dave Bautista’s new film, The murderer's gameThe upcoming action comedy is the latest leading role for Bautista, who is best known for his role as Drax in Marvel Studios' Protector of the Galaxy Trilogy.




The trailer introduces audiences to Bautista's top hitman Joe Flood, who, after being diagnosed with a fatal illness, decides to permanently retire from the hitman business by committing murder on himself. However, when Flood learns that there was a mix-up at the doctor's office and he will not die, he unsuccessfully tries to quit the contract, which leads to him having to fight off an army of fellow hitmen, played by Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Scott Adkins (John Wick: Chapter 4) and Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3), among others. The murderer's game is based on the novel of the same name by author Jay Bonansinga, which was first published in 1997. “When top hitman Joe Flood (Dave Bautista) is diagnosed with a fatal disease, he decides to take matters into his own hands – by killing himself. But when the killers he hired also target his ex-girlfriend (Sofia Boutella), he must fend off an army of fellow killers and win back the love of his life before it's too late,” says the official synopsis of the film, which also stars Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and WWE wrestler Drew McIntyre.



Dave Bautista has become a mainstay in the action genre

After retiring from professional wrestling in 2010, Bautista established himself as an actor in many genres, appearing in everything from comic book adaptations (Protector of the Galaxy) and science fiction blockbusters (Blade Runner 2049) to action comedies (Stuber) and family tariff (My Spy). Despite this diversity, Bautista has always returned to the action genre, appearing alongside the likes of Sylvester Stallone (in Escape Plan 2: Hades), Kumail Nanjiani (Stuber), Pierce Brosnan (Final result) and Jean-Claude Van Damme (Kickboxer: Revenge).

What’s next for Dave Bautista?

Bautista has several projects in development, including the action thriller Trap HouseHe is set to play Beowulf in the Jim Henson Company's live-action film. Grendelalongside Jeff Bridges as the title character and Bryan Cranston as King Hrothgar. He also has a speaking role in the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel and a leading role in the post-apocalyptic science fiction film Afterburning.

A film in which fans should not expect Bautista is Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 4which is not yet officially in development at Marvel Studios. The actor announced in February 2024 that he would not return to the role of Drax for any future project, although he expressed interest in playing a different character in the MCU. “I would love the opportunity to play something like an ominous villain in the superhero universe,” he said. “But my journey with Drax is over.”


The film was directed by JJ Perry from a screenplay by Rand Ravich and James Coyne. The murderer's game will be released in theaters on September 13, 2024.
