Delonte West arrested after fleeing from police, suspected overdose

Troubled former NBA star Delonte West was arrested again early Thursday morning after police administered Narcan to him again during a chase during which police had to administer him Narcan for a suspected opioid overdose.

According to TMZ Sports, West, 40, fled from police in Fairfax County, Virginia, who attempted to serve him with an arrest warrant for violating release conditions before police found him “unresponsive.”

Officers administered Narcan, but it “did not have the desired effect,” Fairfax County police told TMZ Sports. However, it did have the desired effect the second time after West was taken to a local hospital.

West, who has been released from the hospital and is facing resisting arrest charges, appears battered and has his eyes only slightly open in his booking photo. Several NBA fans on X commented on how “sad” the sight was.

The former Celtics, Sonics, Cavaliers and Mavericks guard is being held on $2,000 bail and is due in court on Friday, according to TMZ Sports.

West, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2008, has struggled with substance abuse issues since his last NBA game in 2012.

In October 2022, he was arrested twice within two weeks, first for trespassing and fleeing from police and then for public intoxication.

Four months earlier, West was seen panhandling on the side of a highway in Alexandria, Virginia, and a few days later he was seen loitering in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven.

Mark Cuban, then-majority owner of the Mavericks, helped West get out of rehab in September 2020, but in October 2021 he was arrested after allegedly banging on the lobby doors of a police headquarters in Boynton Beach, Florida, while holding an open can of beer and an open bottle of vodka.

In 432 career games, he averaged 9.7 points and 3.6 assists.
