Kingston police arrest two people on drug and assault charges – Daily Freeman

KINGSTON, NY – City police arrested two men on Wednesday, June 5, in connection with incidents reported on December 5, 2023, and May 22 of this year.

Jahmear Kasi Cooper, 27, of Poughkeepsie, was encountered by police at Hong Fu Chinese Restaurant, 694 Broadway, at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday and arrested on a warrant for the crime of illegal possession of a firearm and assault in connection with an alleged assault on Dec. 5, 2023, Lt. Patrick Buono said in an email Friday.

Cooper was also charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and three counts of unlawful sale of a controlled substance, all related to the investigation of an incident reported on Elmendorf Street on May 22, Buono said. He was also charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance for crack cocaine, which was allegedly in his possession at the time of the arrest, Buono said.

Robert Anthony Walker, 23, of Beacon, was arrested at the same time and place, also in connection with the May 22 Elmendorf Street incident, and was charged with felony counts of illegal possession of a controlled substance and illegal sale of a controlled substance, Buono said.

Cooper was taken to the Ulster County Jail on $20,000 bail, while Walker is being held on $25,000 bail.
