Three Newport News men convicted of deadly and violent crime spree

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Three Newport News men were sentenced by a federal judge Tuesday for a nearly year-long series of violent and deadly crimes.

According to court documents, Ronzel Monte Dixie, 31, Kwaimain Shy'de Redmon, 30, and Meko Montez Brown Jr., 26, along with others, were responsible for a series of violent crimes between January 2017 and November 2017, including multiple murders, commercial robberies, drug thefts, and vehicle thefts that involved police chases.

On October 16, 2017, Dixie and Redmon got into an argument with someone at Hoss's Deli. The two men called another person into the deli for help and followed the man they had in their sights as he rode away on a motorcycle.

Dixie shot the man from the passenger window of her vehicle. After the shooting, Dixie and Redmon took the victim's wallet.

Later that same day, Dixie, Redmon and the other individual arrived at the Happy Shopper supermarket in Hampton just before closing time. After demanding money, the third individual shot the store owner in the face, and Dixie executed a store employee by shooting him in the back of the head while he was lying facedown in the parking lot.

On November 8, 2017, Dixie, Brown and another individual shot a man at 9:20 p.m. and shot a correctional officer 11 minutes later during an attempted robbery.

Dixie boasted that he killed the first man because his nickname was “Wavy 10” and he wanted to have ten bodies to his credit.

Two days later, on November 10, Dixie, Brown, Redmon and another person stole a Cadillac in Newport News. Brown shot the driver of the Cadillac as he tried to follow them, then rammed another vehicle as he tried to pull out of the parking lot.

An hour later, Brown attempted to rob a victim who was entering his apartment. During the robbery, Brown fired a P9 Kahr at the victim but missed. The victim attempted to return fire, but his weapon jammed.

After Brown and the other men fled the scene, Dixie shot a homeless man while shouting, “My gun doesn't jam.”
