Two dead and several injured in shooting at Juneteenth event in Round Rock

Two people were killed and several bystanders injured in a shooting during a Juneteenth celebration in a Round Rock park on Saturday evening, police said.

The people killed, whose names were not released, were not involved in the altercation, according to a press release from Round Rock police.

Police said they are searching for the shooters. Anyone with video or information about the incident can call police at 512-218-5500.

Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services transported four adults and two children, all with potentially serious injuries, to local hospitals, the agency said in a post on X.

The incident occurred at 10:50 p.m. at Old Settlers Park, 1371 Harrell Parkway, when a shootout broke out between two groups at the event, the press release said.

Police Chief Allen Banks said, according to the press release, that police officers and members of the Round Rock Fire Department responded immediately and provided medical assistance to the victims.

The people directly involved in the shooting fled immediately, the press release said.

“It is unfortunate that we are celebrating a wonderful event and now a tragedy has occurred,” said Banks. “My thoughts and prayers are with the victims. My condolences go out to the families of those who died.”

The shooting occurred during the park's 18th annual free Juneteenth celebration. The two-day celebration, held at the Lakeview Pavilion and festival grounds at Old Settlers Park, was sponsored by a nonprofit organization called The Voice Inc. and the Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department.

Banks thanked the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, the FBI and emergency responders from Williamson and Travis counties for their assistance in responding to the incident, the release said.
