Man found with more than 300 suspected fentanyl pills and 40 grams of suspected meth – Greeley Tribune

An Evans man faces two drug trafficking charges after police found more than 40 grams of methamphetamine and more than 300 M-30 pills, a form of counterfeit oxycodone, suspected to contain fentanyl during a traffic stop earlier this month.

According to Colorado court records, police arrested 43-year-old John Luttrell on June 10 on suspicion of intentional distribution of meth and fentanyl.

On June 10, an Evans police officer was patrolling the area near 31st Street and Southgate Drive when he saw a red Hyundai SUV turning north onto Lakeside Drive at a high rate of speed, according to an affidavit for Luttrell's arrest.

The officer lost sight of the SUV, but said he found it parked in front of a home in the 3000 block of Lakeside Drive shortly afterward. The man in the car was talking to another man through the passenger window, according to the officer, who said the man outside the car immediately went back into the house when he drove by.

Police noted in the affidavit that the house in front of which the Hyundai was parked had been associated with drugs in the past and had constant foot traffic, suggesting drug trafficking.

As the officer continued his patrol, he saw the red Hyundai cross the US 85 bypass at 31st Street and turn into a motel in the 800 block of 31st Street, according to the affidavit.

According to police, the driver got out, went into a room for about two minutes and then disappeared with what appeared to be a black loudspeaker.

The man got back into his Hyundai and drove south on State Street, the affidavit states. Police say the man turned right onto 37th Street without using his turn signal and the officer stopped him in the 3700 block of the U.S. 85 Bypass.

As the officer approached the driver – eventually identified as Luttrell – he saw burnt foil on the passenger floor, indicating fentanyl smoking.

Another officer arrived and ordered Luttrell to exit the vehicle. When he opened the door, officers saw more burnt foil in the driver's side door pocket, according to the affidavit.

Police searched the vehicle and reported finding several baggies of counterfeit M-30 pills suspected to contain fentanyl and meth. All baggies were divided up due to suspicion of distribution.

According to the affidavit, police found a clear plastic bag in the center console containing eleven M-30 pills weighing 1.6 grams.

According to their own statements, the police found in a green backpack on the back seat of the Hyundai:

• A clear plastic bag containing 50 M-30 tablets, weighing 5.8 grams.

• A clear plastic bag containing 50 M-30 tablets, weighing 5.9 grams.

• A clear plastic bag containing 51 M-30 tablets, weighing 6 grams.

• A yellow plastic bag containing 100 M-30 tablets, weighing 11.2 grams.

• A yellow plastic bag containing 102 M-30 tablets, weighing 11.4 grams.

• A clear plastic bag containing 4.7 grams of suspected meth.

• Three yellow plastic bags, each containing 7.8 grams of suspected meth.

• Three yellow plastic bags, each containing 4 grams of suspected meth.

• 32 empty, clear plastic bags.

• 15 empty yellow plastic bags.

In total, the police found 302 M-30 pills with a total weight of 40.3 grams. According to the affidavit, the suspected meth mixture weighed a total of 40.1 grams.

Police also searched the loudspeaker Luttrell took from the motel, but said there was nothing inside.

At the Evans Police Station, according to the affidavit, Luttrell said all of the drugs belonged to a woman he knew. He said he didn't know the bag was in the back seat of the car or he would have told the woman she lost it.

Luttrell was arrested and taken to the Weld County Jail without incident. He will be arraigned in Weld County District Court on June 25.
