Police arrest 76-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of an Akron man in March

AKRON, Ohio – A 76-year-old man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old man in Kenmore Township in March.

According to police, Harry Wilkinson was arrested without incident by the Summit County Sheriff's Office on Thursday. He is accused of negligent homicide in the death of Bryan Lee McNeil of Akron.

McNeil was still alive and conscious but had a wound to his abdomen when he was found several feet from the road near a shed in a wooded area in the 600 block of West Waterloo Road shortly before 1 a.m. on March 13, police said. Officers rendered medical aid to McNeil until an ambulance arrived, but he was pronounced dead at 1:25 a.m. at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center.

Police have not released further details about the shooting, but said the arrest came after months of “wrestling with the little-known facts surrounding the incident.”
