Best friends killed, one injured in Southside shooting

MILWAUKEE — Isaac, 15, and Diego Herrera, 16, were best friends. Now their families are mourning at their vigil.

According to Milwaukee police, both teenagers were side by side when they were killed in a shooting near South 8th Street and West Manitoba Street on Saturday night.

Isaac died at the scene of the accident. Diego was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. He had just turned 16 and was killed while celebrating his birthday.

“He loved basketball and spent a lot of time with his friends and cousins,” said Rodrigo Herrera, Diego's brother. “He was very nice, he had a good soul and got along well with everyone. He was just easy-going, you know?”

Emily Rocha, Diego's cousin, was the other teen shot in the incident. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help the families pay for the funeral. The families would like to combine their funerals and bury them next to each other.

“Rest in peace, Isaac and Diego!” read the GoFundMe text. “You will be truly missed by many!”

Police are still looking for a suspect and witnesses told TMJ4 that the shooter was riding a scooter at the time of the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and MPD is looking for unknown suspects. Anyone with information can contact police at (414) 224-Tips.
