Anne-Marie Duff makes first appearance in the return of the Channel 4 crime drama

Channel 4 has released the first photos of Anne-Marie Duff in the new crime series “Suspect”.

The star of “Shameless” and “Sex Education” will reprise her role as Dr. Susannah Newman in the second season of “Suspect.” Ben Miller from “Death in Paradise” also returns as her former partner Detective Superintendent Richard Grove.

In the second season of “Suspect,” “Mamma Mia” actor Dominic Cooper joins the cast as Newman’s new patient; other notable new additions to the cast include Tamsin Greig (“Friday Night Dinner”), Vinette Robinson (“Boiling Point”) and Eddie Marsan (“Back to Black”).

The new photos also show the star cast in their new characters.

“When a mysterious new client, Jon (Cooper), admits under hypnosis that he is a murderer and plans to kill another young woman that same evening, Susannah knows he must be stopped at all costs,” the official synopsis states.

“When he flees before the police arrive and Detective Superintendent Richard Grove (Miller) refuses to intervene, Susannah is forced to embark on her own deadly mission to save Sapphire's life, something she was unable to do with her own daughter.”

Other supporting actors in the second season of “Suspect” include Nicholas Pinnock (Top Boy), Notting Hill actress Gina McKee and Celine Buckens, known from “Showtrial”.

The first season of Suspect aired in June 2022. James Nesbitt plays a detective who vows to retrace the final days of his murdered daughter after finding her body in the morgue.

The series is an adaptation of the Danish thriller Forhøret (Face to Face) by Christoffer Boe, who co-wrote the series with author Anna Juul. The second season was written by Joy Wilkinson and David Allison.

Suspect will return to Channel 4 this summer with eight new episodes. The broadcaster has not yet announced an official release date. The series will also be available on streaming service BritBox International in the US and Canada sometime in the autumn.

Season 2 of Suspect will air on Channel 4 this summer. Season 1 is available to watch now on 4 on Demand.
