A grandmother's 1957 yearbook reveals the tragic truth in a viral video

A grandmother's 1957 yearbook on TikTok revealed a rather tragic truth about women's ambitions at that time.

“This really stunned me,” said the person who posted the viral video.

“I looked through my grandmother’s yearbook and realized that all the women had the same ambitions,” the video caption says.

On each slide, the women revealed their favorite sayings like “Glory Be” and “Oh Shoot,” along with their cute nicknames like “Giggles.”

They have also listed their clubs and extracurricular activities, from choir to school plays to pep club and more.

But their goal was all the same: they wanted to become housewives.

A woman named Jo went a step further and stated that she aspired to be the wife of a lawyer.

Another had already chosen her future husband and mentioned him by name in her yearbook, noting that she wanted to be “Howard’s wife.”

In the comment section, viewers pointed out that the contrast between the women's ambitions and passions, as shown in their extracurricular activities, was a little “sad.”

“It makes me a little sad to think of all the clubs they were in and the activities they were passionate about, but their only ambition was to get married. No mention of other goals,” one person wrote in the comments.

“It makes me so sad that most of her extracurricular activities were theater, singing club, being a librarian, etc. It's devastating to think how many wonderful artists the world has missed out on because of the way society trained them,” agreed another.

“Period, but that makes me sad too,” said another person.

“What if Jo secretly wanted to be a lawyer but being someone else's wife was the closest she could get to achieving that,” one person speculated, adding a broken heart emoji.

Meanwhile, one person focused on Howard.

“I thought they were all going to say 'be Howard's wife' and was so excited to see Howard,” someone joked.
