Watch Jack Black's viral speech at President Biden's fundraiser in LA

“How incredible is it that in a few years we will be able to tell our grandchildren that we saw two Presidents of the United States on the same stage in Kung Fu Panda?”

That's what Jimmy Kimmel said while standing onstage at the Peacock Theater on Saturday night during a star-studded fundraiser for President Joe Biden, where the late-night host moderated a conversation with Biden and former President Barack Obama. The event, which raised more than $30 million, featured A-list headliners Kimmel, George Clooney and Julia Roberts, and also featured First Lady Jill Biden, longtime Democratic supporter Barbra Streisand, Jason Bateman and Kathryn Hahn, and Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph also made an appearance.

Despite all that talent on the same stage, Jack Black, whom Kimmel credited with his long-running starring role as the voice of Kung Fu Panda, received the lion's share of attention thanks to enthusiastic commentary and a colorful ensemble. The veteran comedy star appeared in what he called his “funky American flag jumpsuit” and a “Dark Brandon” T-shirt. A clip of his performance went viral after being shared Sunday morning by the official campaign account of the Biden-Harris headquarters on X, formerly Twitter. (The account also shared a link to purchase the T-shirt — “best to wear when beating bullshit” — for $32.)

In the clip, Black jokes that he has turned down offers to appear at everything from a bat mitzvah to a Jack in the Box opening in Oxnard to campaign for the president alongside Clooney and Roberts. “And if the president wins in November — yes! — I'm pretty sure I'll get a nice round of applause in his victory speech for what I gave up to be here,” he said. “Because when democracy is on the line, Jack Black answers. Mr. President, you're welcome.”

Watch the video shared by the official Biden-Harris account below, as well as Black's comments from the clip in full.

“A few days ago, my manager called me and said George Clooney and Julia Roberts wanted me to help the president and speak here tonight. I said, 'I'm in. When and where?' And then they said, 'Jack, we know how busy you are. You don't have time. Look at all the other events happening tonight that you've already turned down: emcee at the Fliegelman Bat Mitzvah, the opening of the new Jack in the Box in Oxnard, judge at the second annual Imperial Valley Avocado Festival.' That's not on Meryl Streep's resume. I said, 'I know I turned her down, but my president needs me.' Thank you. And then they hit me with the big bang. They said, 'Jack, you can't go. You have nothing to wear. Your good suit is at the dry cleaners.' Well, were they wrong? Because I had this to wear, my amazing American flag jumpsuit—the most patriotic outfit ever. And that shut them up. They couldn't say much after that. And if the President wins in November—yes!—I'm pretty sure I'll get a warm round of applause in his victory speech for what I gave up to be here. Because when democracy is at stake, Jack Black responds. Mr. President, you're welcome. That's not the President. That's not [Joe Biden]just a random guy. But I thought it would look better if I spoke directly to a guy.”
